Obama: Representing South Side
Obama has forgone a permanent Washington residence, commuting every week from his $1.65 million, six-bedroom Georgian revival home in the Kenwood neighborhood of Hyde Park on Chicago’s South Side. The 6,500-square-foot, 97-year-old house, which the Obamas bought in June 2005, features four fireplaces, a 1,000-bottle wine cellar, a four-car garage, and an indoor half-size basketball court. The formal library features shelves made of rich Honduran mahogany. There’s an 800-foot roof deck overlooking the quiet suburban streets outside the wrought-iron fence and the cozy quarter-acre of land the property sits on. When in D.C., Obama stays in a rented one-bedroom apartment near Georgetown Law School.

McCain: A Flashy Phoenix Condo
Today, McCain splits his time off the campaign trail shuttling between Washington and Arizona. The McCains spend most of the week apart when Congress is in session, with McCain in a condo in Arlington and Cindy in Arizona or their property in California. In 2006, the couple downsized from the 11,000-square-foot Phoenix estate to a $4.7 million downtown condo. At 6,000 square feet, the new home has mountain views, a rooftop pool, concierge service, and McCain’s extensive collection of naval memorabilia. The McCains also have a vacation home in Coronado, California. There, Cindy likes to watch the Navy Seals out for a run.
