The Paris spring runways were covered in hair, from sky-high wigs to Cousin Itt wannabes. Well, that trend already seems to be catching on. Above you see a smattering of accessories made from human hair. What, you don't want to sport an eyelash necklace? We'll admit the idea of wearing someone else's hair is a tad creepy. But it doesn't seem to be going anywhere, so get used to it. And maybe you, too, will embrace that deliciously icky feeling of random hair on your face. Here's what's pictured above.

Eyelash Necklace
This sterling-silver necklace by jewelry designer Stephanie Simek models a fringe of lashes made of sterilized human hair.
Price: $45
Where to Buy: The New Museum Store

Hairrings
The original "Hairrings" (earrings made of hair, har-har) by Bijules are available in four different shades of synthetic strands and come with a comb to ward off tangles.
Price: $198 per pair
Where to Buy: Court and Cry Wolf

Holiday Shopping

Extra-Snowy Winter Should Boost Shopping
Extra-Snowy Winter Should Boost Shopping

Weather Trends, a group that forecasts weather for companies like Wal-Mart and Kohl's, says we're in for an especially snowy winter. This could be good for retailers anticipating one of the worst holiday-shopping seasons ever since people will spend money stocking up on cold-weather gear. Weather Trends chief executive Bill Kirk says, “If a month is 1 degree colder, we get a 1.1% lift so let’s say it’s 4 degrees colder, you get a 4% lift in comps.” He also noted that weather changes had bigger impacts on sales in the five biggest economic slowdowns of the last 24 years than eroding consumer confidence. So now we just need to figure out which candidate can make it snow harder. Pundits? [Heard on the Runway/WSJ]

If You Want Those $50 Diesel Jeans, Prepare to Wait Forever

Diesel is selling jeans for $50 today only in honor of their 30th anniversary. If you thought about stopping by but haven't made it yet, be glad you've just thought about it. Because the line to get in was as long as an avenue-to-avenue block at 9:30 this morning. This blogger waited on it and didn't get inside until 1 p.m.! And they were already running out of sizes. Video: Fox News Wants Sarah Palin to Be Photoshopped Like a Supermodel

Did you know the folks at Fox News are experts in retouching? Neither did we! They're upset with Newsweek for not Photoshopping the cover shot of Sarah Palin's face on this week's issue. "It highlights every imperfection that every human being has. But we're talking unwanted facial hair, pores, wrinkles. This is a gross slap in the face to Sarah Palin," says Republican media consultant Andrea Tantaros. She claims the covers of Barack Obama are more flattering. Then anchor Megyn Kelly offers her two cents on retouching, asserting, "That's what they do in the magazine business. They didn't do it for Sarah Palin." Actually they did. Click through for a larger shot of the cover in question and the video.

Taylor Momsen’s Angsty ‘Crash’ Fashion Spread

Little Jenny Humphrey is growing up, bitches! Or rather, Taylor Momsen is. Remember when the 15-year-old Gossip Girl star signed with IMG a few months back? Well, homegirl is not only working but working it. Here you see a sampling of her new spread in the October issue of Crash magazine (see the rest here). With darkened, full eyebrows and red or flesh-colored lips, she chews on straws and wraps chains around her neck. Rufus wouldn't approve, but we can feel her angst. Can you?

Meet the New Girl: Imogen Morris Clarke

London native Imogen Morris Clarke has that je ne sais quoi quality that's got casting directors in a tizzy. Before she hit a single runway, the 16-year-old had been featured on the cover of Japanese Dazed & Confused. And when she made her catwalk debut, she walked for only the best: Rodarte in New York, Prada in Milan, and Alexander McQueen in Paris. Her quirky doll-like beauty harkens Twiggy's era, which we love. Apparently Mario Testino does too, having just lensed the Brit for D&G’s ad campaign. With Japanese Dazed & Confused requesting her again, it looks like this teen's career is about to get busier.

Adventures with Avery

Video: Sean Avery Talks About Playing With Dolls As a Child

ESPN's amazing video profile of ex–Vogue intern Sean Avery explores his double life as a fashionisto and professional hockey player. It begins with a fantastic montage of Avery playing hockey and sitting front row at the Marc Jacobs spring 2009 show. We don't know anything about hockey, but apparently Sean Avery "revels in being the most despised man in his sport." His fashion interest began as a child when he would steal dolls from his babysitters. ESPN goes shopping with Avery, who wears a shirt from one of his favorite stores Blue & Cream. "I certainly admire a nice purse — no question," he says, fondling a bag. He also discusses his Vogue days, dragging his teammates to Neiman Marcus, and brags about already having met a few gays in Dallas, where he recently moved to play hockey. The video's eight minutes long, but we recommend you watch every second of it.

Over the Hills

You know you want to call this face.
We Have Spencer Pratt’s Phone Number

This morning Facebook delivered a little Friday surprise when a friend (of a friend of a friend) posted Spencer Pratt's digits. Are they legit? We haven't called. But the Daily News' Cristina Kinon did (and printed the number) and was too flustered to leave a message when she got Pratt's voice mail. So instead of screaming at your TV when Spencer acts like the world's greatest jackass, you can tell him yourself and blow off a little steam. Like kickboxing.

Tyra's World Takeover

The CW Finally Spins Off ‘America’s Next Top Model’

Jay Manuel and Miss J

We don't know why someone didn't think of this until eleven cycles in, but the CW is spinning off America's Next Top Model. The new series is called Operation Fabulous (working title, but we hope it sticks) and stars Jay Manuel and Miss J. Alexander. They'll travel the country giving makeovers to lucky participants in each town. Reuters reports:

In various towns, the duo will select five participants and give them "Top Model"-style overhauls — how to dress, wear their hair and makeup and bring out their confidence with the support of family, friends and their community.

The project seeks to capitalize on a fan-favorite "Model" segment, when contestants are given head-to-toe high-fashion makeovers supervised by Alexander.

Sure, we may already have two similar shows starring Tim Gunn and Carson Kressley respectively, but this one is by Tyra Banks! She'll executive-produce the series along with Ken Mok, whom she worked with on America's Next Top Model and forthcoming fashion-magazine-assistant reality show Stylista. And now she has one more mechanism with which to mold the nation's adolescent women in her image. And we thought the economic crisis was scary! If you're brave enough to put yourself in the hands of "J and Jay," the casting call is here.

LVMH Profits Up Thanks to Louis Vuitton Monogram Bags

Yesterday the stock market lost more points in a single day than it has in 21 years. Some negative thinkers are calling it a crash. But the fashion industry has proved there is a light at the end of this pitch-black tunnel, and it shines thanks to handbags. LVMH announced yesterday revenues actually increased in the third quarter, thanks to "remarkable" sales at Louis Vuitton. LVMH revenues grew 6 percent over three months through September. And Louis Vuitton alone enjoyed double-digit growth in the same period since its Damier Graphite and Monogram lines are "still enjoying exceptional momentum." Leave it to the fashion industry to inject that dose of positivity everyone's griping about into These Economic Times. LVMH said other brands performed well, too, like Fendi, Donna Karan, Marc Jacobs, and Givenchy and that accessories continue to "see strong progress." So don't buy gold! Buy handbags.

Awkward Situations

Why Naked Models Backstage Aren’t Erotic

Backstage at Prada.

Backstage at Prada.Photo: Imaxtree

Backstage at fashion shows, models don't get privacy when they change. Tell you something you don't know, right? No, sorry — we might not, since we just read a really long story about models getting naked backstage in today's New York Times 'Styles' section. Reporters, photographers, makeup artists, hairstylists, security guards, and general hanger-onners are all backstage when the models prep for the runway. Guy Trebay, who has seen hundreds of models changing backstage at the shows, writes:

What is strangest, perhaps, about this particular form of employment — for which there is no comprehensive job description — is that being around rooms filled with unclad women and men is anything but stimulating.

Maybe that's because — according to men we're not sure we believe — runway models aren't hot. They just... look like runway models

“When you see some doll walking down the catwalk in some sheer thing or nearly naked, it’s fashion,” Mr. Blanks remarked in Paris last week. “If you saw that same girl pole dancing in a club, it would be hot.”

Clowning Around

Marc Jacobs Themes Next Holiday Party ‘Rock and Roll Circus’

Marc Jacobs as camel toe last year.

Marc Jacobs's holiday parties are legendary. The theme is executed to the nines and attendees dress up with the same enthusiasm. They don't just put on a headband with furry triangles and call themselves cats. Oh no. They go to the Halloween spa in Iceland and get treatments that enable their bodies to grow actual fur and claws for a day. Well, not really but the preparation required is just about as intense. So what do the posh fabulous people invited have to prepare for this year? Marc just revealed the theme: "Rock and Roll Circus." According to WWD the invite references the documentary The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus about the Stones' 1968 concerts. That part's all fine and well, but can someone tell us what is up with all the fashion-meets-circus stuff lately? On Saturday, Diesel's 30th-Anniversary party in Brooklyn has the same "Rock and Roll Circus" theme. And what's more, Heatherette designer Richie Rich's ad campaign for his forthcoming Hot Topic line has a "dark circus" theme. So... are clowns going to pop up on the runways in February? Alongside models in stilts? Oh wait — they already do that.

Angelina Jolie Breast Feeds on the New ‘W’ Cover

This is the November cover of W, shot by Brad Pitt. As you can see, Angelina is breast feeding her baby. There's more where that came from inside the issue — which hits stands October 21 — also shot by Brad. Indeed, we appreciate that she appears stripped of the veneer that plagues magazine covers more often than it helps them. Don't get us wrong — we're sure this was Photoshopped considerably (just because all images in magazines are) but it's nice to look at a cover and not wonder how much thinner they made its subject.

Video: Kate Moss Designs Her Topshop Line With Sir Philip Green

Kate Moss is on a roll with her Topshop publicity. She who used to never speak to a reporter has landed a major magazine cover each of the past three months (Vogue, Interview, and British Vogue — but who's counting?) and even gave remotely revealing interviews. This week she appeared on new British TV show British Style Genius. In a very nature-documentary-like approach, the show captures Moss, um, designing her Topshop line with Topshop owner Sir Philip Green. Kate rejoices in having sold over 2,000 of certain pieces while her team shows her clothes at a conference table. Model Erin O'Connor chimes in, praising Kate for not claiming to be a designer (only a "style genius," right?). Whatever.

Fiscal Irresponsibility

The Alexander McQueen Store Will Drain Your Bank Account
The Alexander McQueen Store Will Drain Your Bank Account

Cintra Wilson visited the Alexander McQueen store to find something "bangingsome" to wear to an upcoming literary festival in San Francisco. She found the perfect $1,230 dress: "Never in my life had I crossed the $1,000 barrier for a dress I didn’t get married in. I consider it fiscal suicide... But this wasn’t a dress: It was the fulfillment of my deepest desires, in wool. For a literary performance, it was the perfect fusion of tweedy respectability and autobahn curves. Elves had tailored it on me while I slept... After much weeping and rending of sensibility, I bought the dress. There is no investment more worthwhile, I reasoned, than an investment in your own transformation into a better future-self." [NYT]

The Fug Girls: In These Trying Times, Where Is Our Celebrity Gossip?

Horsewomen of the gossip apocalypse.

We know that this is one stressed-out country right now: Between the contentious presidential election and our collapsing economy, all we want to do is cry into a pint of Ben and Jerry's — but we can't, because going to buy it burns too much expensive gas. That's why now, more than ever, we need to maintain a steady diet of shallow and salacious celebrity gossip stories to take our mind off our own troubles. But as the banks have failed, so too has our beloved rumor mill. Instead of scandal, we're getting D-list drama; Hollywood is serving us lukewarm leftovers when what we REALLY need is a nice, palate-cleansing gossip sorbet. What gives, Tinseltown? Where's the love?

Meet Anna Wintour’s New Crush: Bad Boy Gerard Butler

Dreamy Gerard Butler

Maybe Roger Federer shouldn't have left Anna Wintour hanging on the front rows at Fashion Week. According to the New York Post she has a new crush. His name is Gerard Butler and he's a Scottish actor who stars in Guy Ritchie's new movie, RocknRolla, and previously starred in 300 and P.S. I Love You. Sounds innocent enough. But who is this man, really, who Anna reportedly "talks about all the time"? We did a spot of research and, well, there's no easy way to say this, A-Dubs, but he's kind of a bad boy.

The man let Madonna give him a shot in the ass. »
